Cold Laser Therapy or Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT), also called Photobiomodulation, is a veterinary treatment that utilizes specific wavelengths of light to interact with tissue to help accelerate the healing process. It can be used on patients who suffer from a variety of acute and chronic conditions in order to help eliminate pain, swelling, reduce spasms and increase functionality. During this painless treatment, the light energy from the laser passes through the skin and reaches the underlying muscles, tendons and joints. When tissues absorb this light energy, it initiates a series of events in the cell that enhances intracellular metabolism. The result is increased circulation, and a reduction in pain, inflammation, and healing time. This process can be compared to photosynthesis in plants - sunlight is absorbed by plants, which is then converted to usable energy so that the plant can grow.
Clients may also rent lasers so that they may continue treatment at home in between visits.
